    Hello All!

    Anyone hear of this before?

StartMeStick Plug-in Operating System, Unlimited Use on
Unlimited PCs and Macs, 1 Year

Apparently, $39.99 (down from $79.99) will give you 1yr of
using an alternative OS from a USB stick.

THIS sounds a lot like what some Linux distros can do already.
This sounds almost akin to the Freedom Phone approach (someone
buying a bunch of USB sticks, loading an alternative OS on it)
and "liberating" people from the typical Windows and Mac
offerings. And, this one seems to require a subscription to
continue using it after a year.

That's exactly what this is. It's a bootable linux drive. Big problem I see is that it requires a subscription ($80 for a year if I recall). For folks that can't make their own bootable rescue media it's not too bad of a deal I guess. I wouldn't spend the money on it but can see situations where it could come in handy for people.

Heh. It would help if I read your ENTIRE message before commenting.

Doesn't souhnd lkike some thing I'd spend money on.

I had QNX OSD a whiule back - a full OS, including internet dialup &
    browser,m that fit on a 1.44M diskette!

Compare to the minimum 50Mb free space needed to install Microsoft Windows' leanest OS.

I asked myself: if 48Mb+ aren't being used for me/by me, who IS using it?

    I've seen Linux that'll run completely off a 1.44, too. . .

Doesn't need a subscription, for sure. . . I'd never pay for a subby to an OS -- that's just asking for a never-ending bill when there're choices to not do that out there. . .

My preference is Ubuntu for a lean & fast OS.

I could see it being worth $5-$10 one-time fee as a novelty item at the cash registers of your favorite electronics store (i.e. whomoever replaced Radio Shack in your town) useful for, as you say, those unable or unwilling to make their own bootable stick. . .

People are stuck home in the pandemic, thinking up ways to separate fools from their money, it seems. .
