What kind of juice are you talking? Not that long past, I retired an ASUS Sabretooth not because of any failing, but it was sucking some 240W
doing pretty much nothing at idle. Let alone what it might manage under load.

it jumped from about $78 to about $140 or more. i also had all 6 spinning
disks running in a raid 5 config too. after i found out that the servers
would not take the 8tb drives i got, i decided to move the servers back to my 2009 mac pro. i slapted proxmox on it, and basicly host both the home NAS / Plex server, and my BBS. i am eventually wanting to build a RPi4 BBS box. however i want to test Slackware 15 first with mystic as i have been finding Ubuntu 20.04 LTS having some bug issues with the tmpfs not releaseing space
for the OS / user (Mystic). i am not sure if it is an issue specific to
ubuntu, and there doesnt seem to be very much written on the issue on the web. right now i am testing Slackware15 beta on my laptop right now. so far i have not been able to get the slackbuild to build Virtualbox. once 15 comes out i think i am going to use it as my primary OS.

Wow, good job at 450kWh! We're in the summer months here & are using the AC a lot. In June we used 790kWh and this month we've used 921kWh, even in the winter months we're only down to 660kWh.

We're on "Time of Use" pricing here, "Off-Peak" summer rates are 8.2 cents per kWh all weekend and 7pm-7am weekdays, "Mid-Peak" rates are 11.3 cents 7am-11am and 5pm-7pm weekdays, "On-Peak" rates are 17 cents 11am-5pm weekdays.

The times change a bit in the winter, but really the rule of thumb at my house is you don't run the dishwasher or do laundry until after 7pm during the week.

On average our bill is ~$100 /mo in the winter & ~$150 /mo in the summer.

Wow, that's cheap (the off-peak rate - and good hours as well). I'm on a single rate meter, but when I had Solar I was on a time of use - but our peak was pretty much 7am-10pm (IIRC) - and at 35c/Kw.

The solar helped a lot, but in my old house heating was Electric and it pulled the power. My bill tripled in Winter.

That's how we're setup as well. Natural gas oven & cooktop, furnace & hot water heater. They have an Equal Monthly Payment Plan (EMPP) which is nice as it averages out the bill over the whole year so we don't have high bills in the winter and low bills in the summer.

I'm paying something around 22.4c kWh. Last month for me was ~300 used, after supply charges and odd discount came in at ~$80. I haven't tended to hunt around for better deals much. Looking at the daily use on the bill, near 1/3 of my daily cost is supply charge.

But I don't have heating here... I refuse Leccy heating, and no gas heater... so just rug up. There is a gas stove though so not all bad.

I've found his videos interesting to watch. He's certainly passionate about
the subjects he chats about. I enjoyed a behind the scenes one he did of his studio and set up too. It made me realise the time and expense some of the folks creating videos for YouTube go to in order to put their best foot forward.

I've never put my face up on YouTube and am honestly not certain if I ever will. Still, given that my last video is years old I think I have other
things to worry about first :)

PMFJI, my Jun-Jul usage was 140kWh. I just use a couple of fans
arranged in tandem to draw the cooler air from the lower
(split-level) part of my house, to the upper part. Cool enuff.
