• ANSI drawing complete

...title isn't actually correct, but turns out it took 379 ANSIs for the
first version of my calendar. Still missing some bits for it to display
correct things every day, but now it'll change every day without me needing
    to draw any more ANSIs.

I'm still not sure why I ever thought it was a good idea to put that much effort into it, but it's definitely been a learning experience, and a solid
    way to improve ANSI skills.

I'm not much of an artist, but my skills are definitely better. I do kind of wonder how all the people here who don't make ANSIs would fare if they went ahead and made ANSIs on a daily basis for a while.

I expect you'd find there's a tipping point. For some time you produce low grade work with great improvements but remain critical of the work. And then somewhere along the long it either falls into place or it doesn't.

I've never been an artiste in the sense of putting blocks together, that's never been my thing. Far preferring an ASCII picture + colour. But there was a time I could manage smallish blocks of art... more like icons for pages than anythings. And that was where I left it, and probably couldn't manage it now.

    I suppose.

I tend to view most things as things that people can spend lots of time learning, and generally get pretty decent at.

Talent just changes the speed of learning and top end ability. But take a fairly average person and have them do directed learning on something for two years? They're probably going to be solid with the skill, pretty much regardless of the topic.

People _won't_, but that's because it's a large amount of work to do directed learning on something for two years. Even if you're a bit of a freak, you're probably limited to one or two of those at a time.

I've always found it easier than ASCII, but I think that's just because there are so many fewer choices. I'm sure I could get decent with ASCII if I took long enough.

But there was a time I could manage smallish blocks of art... more like icons for pages than anythings. And that was where I left it, and

Seems neat. I imagine the skill would come back fairly quickly, unless your physical abilities have declined too far.

I do small wood carvings, so I'm used to removing material to make what
I want, so I've never been good at ANSI, plus I make square blocks into
round things. Currently carving a spy vs spy set for the top of the
    kitchen counter. LOL
