Good to hear from you Godfather - and good to hear the good news of no nasties in the lung tissue. Best wishes on the smoking cessation. It's a battle for sure, but one that can be won. I've walked that road and
lived to tell about it.
The really good news is when you are at the doctor's with serious stuff, and they let you leave without settling your bill in cash first!
Glad you have a forward plan and have it hand!
All best and good luck!
Otherwise .. I just hope all are well and that those suffering with
health issues are pushing through then like a champ!
Again, Happy belated Fathers Day.

scan, good news is its calcified and benign, however several other

So I've been thrown into the world of quitting smoking (yes, woulda
coulda shoulda) and my it's been a battle but so far this is the one I
can control.
In the process of the aforementioned I've failed to wish all you All
Pro Dads happy fathers day! And .. I've let my BBS sit on idle to
some degree.
The Underground is a live and well with tons of support from Black Panther, Paulie, Meatlotion, and Apam, as I have gone through this
roller coaster of mine I've created.
Feel free to give it a call .. despite my head being in the sand, I
have converted it to an RPI4 with 6tb of storage space (much of I've filled with files that may be of interest ..) Paulie has been kind
enough to help with this and we've added Gopher, because we can ..
Lots of RCS mods in action or preview .. a Great Hire A Hit experience that Dan the Man wrote for me (Thank you Black Panther .. seriously
owe ya one ..) and lots more ...

the alternative of not loss but death .. it's not as hard of a battle.

I threw
the pack in his garbage can. Haven't had a smoke since. Was it easy? HELL NO, but after 3 days when it was no longer physical I was able to convince myself I didn't need another one.
This makes me chuckle a bit at myself. I've needed to quit for a long while now. And several times in the last few years I've been in the hospital for much longer than 3 days and obviously I couldn't smoke
there. The hard physical part was done after being without tobacco for that duration. Each time, as soon as I got home, I went outside and lit one up. Stupid.

good luck with that. don't forget it's one of the easiest game in the world, with just one rule: don't smoke :)
Hmm, that sounds interesting... Some CD-ROM archives? Guess I'll have to check... :)
So true. When I had oral cancer doc said if you quit smoking there is a much better chance it won't come back after we remove it. I threw the pack in his garbage can. Haven't had a smoke since. Was it easy? HELL NO, but after 3 days when it was no longer physical I was able to

Health issues are nothing to sneeze about. Ever since I hit 50 it's all downhill and fast... high diabetes that they can't get under control,
bad neuropathy in my legs, arms, and torso, athritis in my spine now, clogged cariodid arteries... had a few strokes already. There's days I
get the urge to reread the book of Job in the bible and compare it to my own life.
I'm having a much smaller battle with potato crisps/chips, cheese and chocolate... none of which contribute much to my overall health but I still like them :)
Good to hear that it's not the nasty "C" word. That has to be a major relief. My suggestion is to keep BBSing real strong so you don't think
of smoking and besides that you might have to start exercising because
of all the weight you're going put on from quitting the sticks. :)

My goodness, what a way to be welcomed into my 50's lol! I'm so sorry
to hear of all your health issues.
I will say the muscles and joints
do hurt more with age, and the belly tends to hold more cheese then it
did in my 30's to mid 40's. I suppose thats what they meant by being truly over the hill .. or is it "It's all downhill from here?" I can't remember.
Your book of Job reflection gave me a good chuckle ;)

put selectivly offer some on TUG for fun. I suppose I have two habits
to break -- smoking, and hoarding files :)
I was fine through my 30's through 40's. As soon as 50 hit, it was like someone turned on a switch. I'm still trying to find the leads to the
darn thing. As I say... you know you're getting old when you stop chasing the pretty ladies to have "fun" with them, but instead you TRY to chase
them to ask them to help take care of you <G> At least you might be able to sneak in a sponge bath here and there ;->

Actually, I chase prety ladies in order for them to help me take care

BUT, I am on day 9 without hosipital intervention.
I always wonder why it takes a hospital visit, near death experience, prior to most adults (cough .. me) to make life style changes. I guess because I always assume I'll deal with it if it ever happens, but hasn't happened 'yet.'
Not going to lie though .. I miss the heck out of smoking.

similar fashion for different reasons. My dad went to Church one day, came home, threw away his pack of smokes and case of beer, and hasn't touched either in over 50 years -- he's a minister now. My mom had
health issues (Osteoporosis) that apparently was accelerating in part because of her smoking. So she also quit cold turkey. I'm using the
nicotine and not just the smoking. You're a stronger man then I am to have quit cold Turkey, but I'm close to that.
While in
the hospital for 7 days, on some super wild pain killer, apparently the nurses got tired of hearing me complain and would disconnect my IV and
let me go outside to smoke. The Doctor even approved it (rolling eyes
..) They should have just told me no and I would have been 7 days free
of smokes by then.
Emphasyma is no
fun .. I get short of breath very easy working around the yard, like simply pulling weeds, or walking an outdoor mall with my kids, or doing
on a pathed nature walk with my kiddos.

It's not only that, we assume it isn't going to happen at all. None of
us picked up a pack without knowing the dangers involved and the same could be said for just about anything unhealthy. But we also know the negative repercussions do not happen to everybody and we also 'know' we are going to fall into that category. Until we don't...
You know one thing that IS great, tho... our kids, well mine anyway; smoking isn't even on their radar anymore. Its kind of been taught, and proven, how deadly smoking is - my daughter is an angel, but my 17 year old son is... a challenge; hes not your honor roll student... but even he is like 'screw cigarettes'.
I'm super thankful that thru science we've kind of shown and proven - to our youth - that smoking is for [us] dummies.
I'm super thankful that thru science we've kind of shown and proven - t youth - that smoking is for [us] dummies.
Here in Spain it seems to be the opposite. Every 11 year old kid is smoking because they want to break the rules, ba cool, and cancer is something that happens to other people anyway.

Wow, thats terrible to hear. Again, this is just MY viewpoint from my kids a the general feel I get from living in Texas, California and Oregon here in t states but yea, it seems like in America the kids DON'T smoke for the reason you stated above.
When I was a kid, many adults smoked. There were smoking sections IN RESTAURANTS [yuck!] and smoking was just generally more accepted as a right not [so much] a health risk...
I don't know what that situation is in Spain, but... it seems like after the huge cigarette court cases, and judgements against big tobacco, and America' final choice to ban smoking more that the kids started catching on. I hope m countries see the good outcome in America and make smoking less socially acceptable. It seems that THAT is what caused the switch. I'm super happy to see it - and I used to smoke. I wish we'd of figured this out 30 years prior

We have been on a whitchhunt agains smokers for quite a while already in Spain. In fact I have the idea that we started it first - but I'd have
to look it up to be sure. We used to have smoker areas in both transport and restaurants and now those are gone. We have also declared a war on vapers.
I am of the opinion that the voter shapes policy more than the policy shapes voters, when it comes to things politicians donç't have great interests in. I'd bet anti-tobacco policies got started because somebody thought they could get better PR out of them and they thought public opinion would take it with grace.

I had fun seeing all your READING materials - and thats also what I like about ANONArchivers - they host files in a different than normal
format, such as... demos in MP4 format... retro magazines in PDF; all that really work well for BBSing and digesting the content.
TUG is on fuego in the files department.
Wow... He found something that day didn't he?
My mother quit with the patch and it's been probably close to 30 years now, she still says on occasion she misses it. I'll be honest I haven't thought of having one since.
Not strong, just didn't want to go quit yet.

We don't even have that option here any longer. The hospitals have all declared themselves tobacco-free campuses starting at the entrance to
any of the land the hospital owns. After all, .000002 ppm of smoke
might drift 2000 feet to someone getting out of their car. The
hospitals also apparently have enough spare money to pay for extra security personnel who do nothing but walk around looking for this.
I'm sorry to hear you are going through that. But it sounds like you
are doing the right things and you certainly seem to have the right attitude about it.

Thank you and for your words of encouragement .. still plugging away,
one day at a time of the addiction. I'm mostly doing this cold turkey now. An occasional lozenge has been helpful but only 2-3 per day. One slip up so far, but it instantly made me feel horrible so it wasn't hard to get right back to focusing on quitting for sure.

My "grandpa" smoked for 50 years without issue until he

my doctor tells me my lungs sound just fine..
..Hearing a few of the aforementioned was enough to KEEP
smoking at times -- such as the stories of those quitting

Odd how I never paid much attention to the oppostive
stories more frequently right in fron tof me:My dad quit
and is alive to speak about it at 75 years of age.
..I should probably reinvest that money into somethig with
a much better return -- my kids education, stocks, crypto,
whatever .. anything. Nicotine is an incredibly powerful
drug for sure.

My mom would always buy the whole carton. 20 packs per carton?
It would barely last her a week.
Glad you got a laugh, helps keep you young - so you have just enough energy to chase those young ladies <G> That's a great game plan! I just try to be humorous... but my face isn't everything. If you can get em laughing the rest is fairly easy and with the way my joints are getting
I need as much help as I can get. Especially if you're a manager/boss. I had a cute 23 yr old working for me for a year until the place got sold. We had so many laughs and with her there was no limit! She still keeps
in touch and wishes she was still working for me. People thought there
was really something going on between us but there was absolutely
nothing. That in itself was pretty funny and sort of fits the line of
what you're looking to do :) Let people think what they want to think no matter how wrong they are.
Did you start smoking when you were still living at home?
There is a commericial on tv that promotes a nicotine mouth
spray. Nicorette, QuickMist.
My mom quit successfully on her 3rd cold-turkey try. She was
simply fed up with the high price of cigs. As a chain-smoker,
it added up quite a bit. But then, on a routine visit to her
allergy specialist, a chest-xray revelead "some concern" when
spots were detected. It's almost as if the smoking kept the
cancer at bay. But quitting let it progress. :/
We went through calculations realizing if that money had been
deposited into a modest saving account, the accrued interest
would have resulted my mom to be a multimillionare by the time
she *did* quit.
Just to state the obvious - be happy with your effort. I can't believe
you quit
as quickly as you did, and a 'slip up' is just that... dude, we smoked
for some
DECADES. Its a huge deal in what you've already been able to do and deserves to
be seen.
Good job, don't worry about slip ups - and I hope it keeps going well
for you. Quitting smoking is huge and hard. It seems like yer well on
yer way.

Feel glad it wasn't boxers he was trying on <BEG> That had to be years ago. Today #metoo would be all over that, as would the local boys in

very aware of what he was doing and didn't appear out of sorts.
I'm only a few years behind you in age. I didn't try one until I was in
my early teens. Nicked one off an Aunt that was staying with us at the time. Didn't like it and knew it would do me harm so just left them
alone after trying them and avoided getting hooked on the nicotine etc..
Now we have kids vaping and getting hooked on nicotine that way.. it's a sad old state of affairs :(
It's a good thing! I started at 12, quit at 42, went back at 50, finally quit for I hope good at 55.
It's pretty sad because they feel they aren't smoking and it won't do anything to them, the thing is NO ONE knows what vaping will do yet! It's still in it's infancy stage. Back in the 70's we all knew what smoking would do of us smoked to be cool, others because they wanted to. It's
not cool when you sitting in a hospital room looking at a person who is half the size they used to be because they have lung cancer and you are just watching them breath their last breaths.. Anyways..
