Is your BBS on a different interface than the rest of your network?
I do IT work for a living and Retired the SonicWALL from one of our customers and it was offered to me. It's got a bunch of features that I want to
explore. Ideally I would like to set up a separate VLAN to isolate the BBS
and newsgroup server from the rest of my network.
I do NAT translation so I use port 23 and port 23 externally on my network
and pass them through to internal ports to Mystic 2023 and 2022 which allows
me to not need to run mystic as root (which seems to work better for me).
The sonicwalls require forwarding rules be bound to UDP or TCP and I couldn't find a definitive on which BINKP uses so I set up forwarding rules for both protocols. I am able to poll using fidopoll and will have to monitor my logs to see if I'm getting inbound traffic.
I have toyed with moving the entire BBS to a cloud provider and the only
thing holding me back is the fact that I may have the only working version of Tradewars running on Linux 64 and I am not 100% confident that I could do it
a second time - lol
