• Kludge lines/Other?

From paulie420@21:2/150 to All on Sunday, May 30, 2021 12:49:55
Pretty weird, my fsxNet messages are ALL showing up with the:
    @MSGID @REPLY @TZUTC @SEEN-BY etc, etc...

Every message seems to have them at the top today. Anyone else experiencing that or did I flub something on my BBS side?

I also am seeing some issues with more than 10,000 messages in some message areas - I think I know how to fix this issue; just set the max msgs to 9999 I believe.

Anyway, just asking about all those data lines at the top of msgs.

If you press "V" while reading messages you will see the kludges, path and seen by lines, but normally no, you shouldn't see that.

I don't think that is your issue but it's hard to say. Maybe some other net 2 folks will let us know what they are seeing.

I also am seeing some issues with more than 10,000 messages in some message areas - I think I know how to fix this issue; just set the max msgs to 9999 I believe.

The lists are hard coded to 4 digits so once you go over 9,999 it gets truncated, I think. I keep my message bases at 5000 messages so I don't see that issue here.

JAM bases can store large numbers of messages if you want to do that. Millions I think, at least theoretically anyway, I've never tried that myself. ;)

I did have more than 10,000 messages per area at one time and I had to adjust the language file and the index message reader .ini file. That was a long time ago though, and things may have changed since then.

Avon has large numbers of messages, so I hope he will have advice for you.

Anyway, just asking about all those data lines at the top of msgs.

Not your issue (I think), but we'll want to figure that out along with a solution.

Thank you - as it isn't in the ?-help list of available command I hadn't
    known about this. Very useful!

I think it WAS the "V" thing. Derp, Paulie drops the ball again. :P

I will, however, lookout for any suggestions about the msg #s over 9999. No biggy; I just couldn't figure out why all those lines showed up... and it was [fairly sure] that I just pressed a button I wasn't aware of. Best 'problem' ever, tho...

I have Max Msgs set to 250000 & Max Msg Age set to 1825.

I've never had anywhere near that many messages in there, but at least the option is there. I've also used Avon's video to expand the message number
when listing all messages. (Prompt 400 I believe?)

Ahhh... I do remember this, Warp... thanks for pointing that out; dependant on any other responses, I'm either going to set my max @ 9999 or change prompt 400 to something compatible with 10,000+. I know to search Avons videos for that info - thanks as I'd long forgotten about that - I thought 'when am I ever gonna get to 10k msgs?!' ... well, that answer is about a years worth of fsxNet's main chatting base posts. :P

Appreciate your suggestion, as I'd LIKE to keep 10k+ msgs... we'll see what irons out in the end.

I'm over 27000, and the only weird bit is how the message list changes the number to the left every ten messages, rather than every one.

I suppose I'd bother to figure something out if I heard it bothering Stormtrooper or some random visitor to my message base.

I just changed the display template on my BBS to show 5 digits and that fixed that issue. I've opted to retain all messages for most bases as HDD space is plentiful.

Ok, also good to know... someone pointed me towards Avon explaining how to add a digit/column on the message # - which I think would work for me... right now my msg counter only goes up to 9999, so the 10,000+ messages LOOK wrong. But they SEEM to be showing up in the correct order and all that...

So, I'm gonna dig a bit and see if I can add a digit onto the prompt... I think Avon has info in one of his videos about this.

    :P

Thanks for replying to this Avon... I'll hunt down that prompt and change it to 5 digits and see what it looks like on my system. Don't go hunt, but do you happen to remember the prompt #?
