Anyone else still using this thing? I'm unclear whats going on, but feutil in particular seems to be not achieving purge/pack during maintenance. I started receiving messages about msgtxt exceeded. Oh joy... however some 2/3 of the base was subsequently packed out... tres odd...

I noticed that my message bases wouldn't always get pack during nightly maintenance, and other times they would. So I added this to my .BAT file and it seems to be working ok:

    CD \TELEGARD\FE
    IF EXIST C:\TELEGARD\FE\FEBUSY.* TIMEOUT /T 15
    IF EXIST C:\TELEGARD\FE\FEBUSY.* DEL C:\TELEGARD\FE\FEBUSY.*
    FEUTIL.EXE PACK -RENUMBER
    FEUTIL.EXE INDEX

I started receiving messages about msgtxt exceeded.

I get those from time-to-time as well, seems to be the odd bot post that
posts extra large messages. My own weather reports that I post were
sometimes too big even for Mystic.

Hmm wacky quoting going on... I wonder if the implication is that the filesystem isn't reporting the removal of the semaphore before feutil starts again with the next process. It might just be worth "sleep"ing for 15s between operations.

I see those from time to time, mostly out of CSA2, but the msgtxt exceeded is in fact the overall size of the hudson base text element, msgtxt.bbs.

    Something to work with there..

I stopped and moved to HPT.
Feutil I think has limits on how many messages is can handle in JAM bases. That's what I recall seeing.

Good thing I'm still Hudson eh :) Theoretically I can use a JAM base with "The Reader" but I'd lose any native support in hudson with SuperBBS. Unless I dropped all SuperBBS message operations and just went to "The Reader" exclusively. But you lose things like mail check at logon.. so not sure thats what I really want to do...

Also thought about using hudson for local bases and shifting FSX into JAM + The Reader and trying to fit that together. It just hasn't lifted to the top of any kind of todo list...

One also supposes, I could modernise message transfer if I moved all those operations to linux, seeing as the message bases all live on a network share. But that all seems to hard at this stage.

The hudson base works great it a very fast base to work with. I always found echo and netmail bases worked well.

You just have to stay within the limits of it, 200 areas and a maximum size of 15 or 16 MBs. My message base is around 400 MB currently, so I can't use hudson. :)

That could be the way to go, you'll gain a lot in terms of message storage / retention then.

I know this feeling well... :)
