I finally broke and installed Icewind Dale. Its only been sitting on the shelf for the last 4-5 years. Having loved all the BG series and Torment, and knowing this uses the same if modified engine, I was rather disappointed with it actually.
It has a lot of ring through the nose, linear dungeon crawl to it. The previous offerings let you wander anywhere you wanted ad hoc, might get your butt served to you if you reach for to much in the wrong place but the world was your oyster so to speak.
The dale doesn't let you go anywhere... just follow the well worn trail. On the flipside its a tad more modern on the D&D front, which isn't a good thing to me still I'm sure some players would like it. It also does handle some things like item stacking better too...
Failed expectations aside its still pretty solid though.
