• Mystic theme creation problems

From gcubebuddy@21:4/129 to All on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 01:51:20
Hi all, so i bought a BBS theme of ansigarden, however i am having a really hard time understanding how to use the ansi art + the menu scripts to get
them to work together. i think i must be missing something....

for everyone here, when you started to build your bbs theme - how did you
start off or go about it? Im sure once i understand the process of how it
fits together it will be alot more clear... im just not getting it....i have been fighting with it all day.

so for the first step do you all just create an empty folder with the new artwork, and then just build the menues from that? if so, how?

or do you take a pre-existing theme default, and add the new ansi art to it?
if so how? from the time today playing with it, i dont quite understand how
to take the settings from say the main menu and apply it to the new ansi art.... any help would be really useful.

also does anyone know of any in-depth youtube videos on building Mystic
    themes?

    Thanks
    - Gamecube Buddy

    Hallo gcubebuddy,

for everyone here, when you started to build your bbs theme - how did you start off or go about it?

I can't tell you about Mystic, as I'm using Synchronet, but I did it this way:

I looked at the default Synchronet menues and then used a text editor to write down all functions that I want in my own menues and which keys they should get.
Especially, I wanted the "message base functions" to get their own
submenu, because in the default menu structure, they are in the main menu
    - and I wanted to unclutter it.
I tried not to forget a function and then created the new menu scripts (in Synchronet, you have to write either a JavaScript or BAJA script file for
    the menu structure).
After that, I went to TheDraw! and created the ANSI files.
I'm using a fairly simple style that I created myself, with the exception
of the main header in each menu: these are created using a TheDraw! font
    that I found.
On this page, there are quite many of them: www.roysac.com

I hope this helped you a little.

    Regards,
    Anna

I understand what yer asking now, gcube... I'd start by copying the default to a new theme... (or if you're only gonna have one theme, USE default...)

Then you'll edit each menu you want to replace and add your ANSI menu name. .ANS files go in /themes/default(or other)/text....

In each menu you can type / and enter a filename to display. Hit me on.... where you did originally, and I can further help.

thank you sir for checking out my echo on this. i am going to send out
another echo on this with a ascii graphic of how i am trying to position the text and prompts for the log in screen.... so for i have successfully got the ANSI graphic to display. however i cant seem to find the settings of how to position the login text box and password textbox on the new login screen.
right now i have created a new theme from copying the default theme folder.
I am currently building the template on a test VM on my laptop, before i roll it out to production on my actual BBS.

I've been noticing some anomalies as well. There was one message I replied to that appeared to end abruptly, with literally nothing else below it. As if
not only did most of their message not make it though, but as if an infinite amount of space chrs were added below the cut off. I had to pop up the
lightbar message list to proceed, I couldn't just hit enter at the bottom
of the message, because the bottom of the message didn't exist.
