There isn't currently one. You are always free to talk about it here.

Not really, not to say it won't be, just that the amount of automotive chatter has never been that great (to date) to in my mind warrant a specific echo. If a number of folks all start taking makes, models, engines and more then yeah I think we would want that :)

Autos are all well and good, but seems a lot of people don't know how
to drive theirs on country roads. Got stuck behind several shockers
today - slowing down for bends (that can be easily taken at 100 km/h), unable to maintain constant speed, hitting the brakes for no obvious reason, etc. :/

I took my son out this weekend for his first trip behind the wheel. He
got his learner's permit last week, and we took him to a local junior college with 15 mph roads and lots of wide-open parking lots.
What made perfect sense to him - if you turn left, press the left-hand side stalk down to activate the turn signal. To turn right, he pressed down on the right-hand stalk and instead turned on the wipers, much to
his embarrassment.
Slowing down *before* you enter the turn is going to be our next
lesson.
It's interesting seeing driving from a newbie's perspective - we take
for granted the fact that when driving you're looking around, braking, preparing to turn, watching the car ahead of you, etc. He was sort of doing one thing at once then switching to the next task.

Ha, daughter just turned 15... she got behind the wheel for the first
time and was like, "oh, it's just like Mario Kart..."

Give her some CRC 5.56, she'll be right... or if you're with the plebs make it some WD40 :)

We better stop this, shift gears to something else, or it might
drive some people insane. I'll let you put the brakes on it
first, we can let it cruise along. :) (Btw, the "traction" one
in another thread was pretty good too.)

The deputy comes up, looks in the window at both of us, and with a
smirk asks "learning to drive?". My daughter was petrified, but she answered him. He asked to see her permit, my license, and the vehicle registration. He looked at them, chuckled, and told us that he was
just checking on this car driving aimlessly around the parking lot, but that we were good to go. He and I got a good laugh at my daughter's reaction, but she did well handling it. I was proud of her.

Indeed, I see no reason not to talk about automotive topics here. :)

My son is going to take the test in a Prius with a backup camera, should make the parallel parking test easier than parking a land barge!

Yup, that's how topics get started on FSXNet ;) Talk about them tell
they tell us we have our own area to talk about it. The other thing is
to move over (or back) to USENET where I first talked to most of you including Avon via UUCP and Waffle on an old PC. There is Automotive
areas there and has been since the late 1980's or so. That's the beauty
of FSX_GEN that we start threads about anything, like the old days of
FIDO before the politicos took it over from it's creator ;(
I used to login with a C64, TI99/4A, Amiga, Beehive Terminal and so on
in those days. Now I can get on from work while testing a PC Clone ;)
That and you can figure out what's wrong with the cars that way too.
There ran a circle around the whole topic ;)

Cars nowadays are easier to learn in -- I did all of my driver's ed in
a 1971 Buick Electra 225 that was as wide as a lane, and a 1965 Mustang with a hair-trigger throttle and bias-ply tires that'd light up any
time you goosed the throttle.
My son is going to take the test in a Prius with a backup camera,
should make the parallel parking test easier than parking a land barge!
