Soooo I've started disengaging from streaming the Church Services... They've finally come to the conclusion they don't know what they're doing or what they actually want. On initial arrival it was simply make it better, do what you want. Which has pro's and con's...you don't have a target in mind, I figured they'd be looking for something that looks like a church, but it appears they're going for the stadium concert look. Bit hard to work that from both ends. Having gotten past that they've decided to turn the "team" into a committee. Always reminded of the camel being a horse designed by a committee... figure its time to exit stage left. While initially ok, there was nobody much involved when I started and as covid has unwound there's all sorts of straw bosses trying to do their thing and I'm just not that interested... besides I could do something other than go deaf from they volume they push out into the church space.. Have to lift the hearing protection and then yell at the sound guy right next to me, to get some settings checked or more volume for the streaming end...

Ahh so next, my mother bless her cotton socks, is pushing 92. She's been in a nursing home the last years or so... she's still pretty mobile, and insists on getting out and walking about, despite having a walker, and seeming to enjoy the occasional fall. She finally did herself some mischief though.. out on the street somewhere, she took a spill and broke her collar bone, and right wrist... I got the job of picking her up from the "Facility" and taking her around to the Doc's... She's decided its to hard to clamber into my sister's Jeep.. so far so good, got a referral for a CT scan on the wrist because its a mess from osteo-arthritis and it didn't x-ray well, and an Ultrsound on the shoulder just to check for some soft tissue injury. Got that out the way and sneaked her back in. Took about 30 minutes on hold plus about a 5 minute conversation to get the two scans booked for tomorrow at this stage. Drove home, parked the car all is well...

Missus was getting ready to leave for work, last night... of course the car won't start, oh joy. Tried starting a few times, but the Multi-Meter was saying 7v and the starter wasn't having it. Also didn't want to push start either... so parked it in the street, pulled the battery expecting to bring it in and pop it on the charger, it did seem unusually warm as I extracted it. Having gotten it inside in some light, it was a catastrophic failure, and what I thought hpreviously had been an exhaust leak, was in fact the battery cooking itself, boiling, and pushing out some kind of sulphide gas. It had a couple of leaks from the sealed top, and the sides are all bulged. So this mornings job was to source another battery before tomorrow and cruising around with Mother to get her scans done. Sheesh they're expensive these days.. still its done and won't need to worry about it for some time.

TLP's Melbourne has had a slight overhaul. Not to long ago, I got an analogue framgrabber. The Ex sent out an old Canon 800i we had.. it has FireWire on it, but I don't have any Firewire gear here. I eventually discovered it had a tape in it, copied it off with VLC and this framegrabber. Then disassembled the Orange Pi cam which has a tendency to lose its cam. Plugged the framegrabber directly into the web server ran up another copy of m jpg-streamer and away it went. It's got better resolution and zoom than the original webcam, but not that much better. It remains to be seen how stable it is in comparison.

That's quite a story. Too bad it didn't pan out.

But are YOU bowing out of the project, or are THEY giving up on
    the project?

How old was the battery? I had an OEM battery that lasted
nearly 10 years! And.. we're taling about cold -30C winters.

What's the framgrabber on your bbs for?

Would like to invite you to check ours out! We are a VERY small
country church, and our streamed services are literally for those
that can't be there (sick, Covid, whatever) or live out of town...

Right now we're only on Facebook, but I'm working on getting us
a private web site and streaming there...

Well, portions would like me to stay. But I'm not completely on board with a number of aspects of how it works, and where they're trying to go. I'm not good with the volume that they bang out, its too loud. They seem to want a "concert" look to things, I was aiming for more of a traditional "church" feel. Last but not least of the main things, I think I could be doing more or less with my time.

PS: I find that a church like any other organisation attracts elements that
are purely there to "showboat" not be all warm and fuzzy.

What I've ended up doing here, is streaming directly to FB, thats where most people look and is pretty much a lowest common denominator. I save a copy of the stream, edit to clean it up a bit if needed, not that I'm a spiffy editor. And post it onto the website.

Looks like you're single camera at the present. Without being able to see the space, I'd probably try and back it up and use its zoom a bit more. You can widen out and get a bit more of a feel for the space you're using then. According to FB you're only in 480p too... I'd suggest getting to 720p if you can, it'll look better on a larger display, although much the same for a phone size screen.

Its a nicer space than I've had to work with, "ours" is really a factory
space and it still looks like it. Looks like a mezzanine and ground floor.
Also more cameras in better positions. I initially had 1 camera, got as far
as 3 which gave reasonable coverage.

After covid restrictions eased though, all that went out the window. There wasn't any way to to spread out the setup and keep it out of the congregation which was suddenly OH&S issues. Ended up back at two cams with different levels of zoom pretty much in the same location looking at exactly the same scene.

Yeah - most of our people are Facebook, so when we do move I'll have to
post something SPECIFIC to help them move their viewing...

Thanks for the tips! I'm using Switcher on an iPad and using an iPhone
for the 'camera.' I have a second iPhone I can use, and sometimes do,
plus the iPad I'm running the software on has a built in camera I
    can use.

We recently starting showing the scripture in house via projector,
and I'm sharing that computer screen as a seperate input as well,
and usually use picture in picture to show it. We are planning to
move to at least one television, if not two.

I also plan to permantly mount several iPhones in different areas
so I can show the music area, show the congregation, etc.

I'll check on the resolution! No one has complained, so I haven't
    even looked at that side!
