Well I know next to nothing about c++ and compiling software but I've learned
a little bit in recent days. Now I'm trying to learn all about double free memory and how to track down the cause of this bug...

    Which bug? where?

usually double free is crash or assertion or failure under valgrind, electric fence, a debug malloc, or msan.

Prob best you pull in FSX_NET and have a read... Oli and I have been sluthing over very old source code for some gating software I have been using in
Windows but now the Linux versions to read/post to NNTP have been giving us some issues :)

That double free is a bug in the software, unfortunately.

It'll take a programmer to fix that issue. I am no programmer. :)

Maybe you can find a way to work with it anyway, but the solution requires a programmer's love/care/attention, I hope the software has someone looking after it and/or maintaining it but here in the FTN world those programmers are few and far between. :(

Neither am I .. well not at that level.

But I have enjoyed looking at the code and trying to deduce stuff.

I could probably find a workaround but given I sort of have an idea of what
may be up I'll keep looking / digging to see if I can find a way to resolve
    it.

I just linked up at 3/100, that should help keep things moving along.

I've been making changes to the 3:770/1 HUB tonight. It's possible I have impacted something else but hopefully not.
