From poindexter FORTRAN@21:4/122 to All on Monday, November 30, 2020 08:15:00
For my wife's and my anniversary, she bought me a bottle of "Writers'
Tears", an Irish whisky to put alongside my increasingly Islay-heavy
    scotch whisky connection.

It's an irish whisky aged in American bourbon barrels and French
cognac barrels. It ends up being a nice, sweet drink with a caramel
nose (to me, at least) and a smooth finish.

it might do nicely with a lemon peel. Or another glass.

If you haven't, you should try the Balvenie. I'm quite partial to the 14 year Caribbean cask and the 21 year port wood. They do a triple wood but it seems you can only get that at duty free stores, which would give me a good excuse
to go to Canada I guess :)

It's been years. Thanks for the recommendation! I'm definitely ready
for a vacation from Peaty. :)

I don't like peaty at all. These are rather smooth Speyside whiskys. If you're after a slightly cheaper 21 year then I can highly recommend the Aberfeldy.

    I think I have a nice range now - a bottle of Peat Monster(an
American blended scotch that echoes some of the Islays), a bottle of
Writer's Tears that I mentioned, a bottle of Old Potrero rye whiskey
(distilled by the Anchor distillery in San Francisco in the style of
old 18th century ryes) and a bottle of Ardbeg, an Islay.

    Slainte!
