So sad, Retail was such a great industry I made a lot of money working within. I was mostly in Consumer Electronics. I had worked for Broadway Southwest, Fred Schmidt, Ultimate Electronics, Sears, hhgregg, and Best Buy. Only one remains standing. I never thought I'd see a day where people don't want to HEAR an instrument, audio system, or SEE an appliance to make sure it fits, lay on a bed prior to ordering it, or test drive a car prior, prior to purchasing any large purchase. But we're there.

What bothers me is where to I go to try out a new guitar? Mail order is OK

I play guitar to some extent, keyboards and drums to a lesser extent.

Can't say I've ever been overly impressed with Guitar Center or their prices, but it is a place to try out kit before buying. Maybe that's one reason.

I agree - its a crazy time, where people are relying more on this infrastructure built by the Zuckerburgs, Bezos's and others than their own eyeballs and guts. Insane... the only ones still working on peoples heartstrings are the hustlers who are out there everyday getting dirty.

People don't realize that the biggest hustlers are the companies; Facebooks, Googles, Best Buys... that are really the scam artists.

New companies, or current ones with the mind to fix that problem, will service that need. My fear is that it will be in some new, hands off way that we haven't thought of yet. They'll ship you [the financially capable anyway] 5 guitars, and charge you for 2 in the end.. because you scratched two in the process...

It will be some hustle. Some sale. Some new way to squeeze dollars from a customer, while offering them less and less.

They already do in Cali, or they did about 7 years ago when I worked for them. It was a few of their Pasadena stores I had visited .. we were visiting some high end appliance set up they had just purchased (like Magnolia for appliances) and a concept store where they had integrated it into a best buy store.

Guitar player here as well. I wonder how much the pandemic was responsible for Guitar Center's bankruptcy. I stop in very infrequently, maybe once a year and rarely are there more than a couple of people in the store. I can't say I've ever bought anything from them online either, there is always a better price at other sites.

Regardless, I think in the current spot we're in - it's hard being any business right now. Retail high up on that list. :/ This isn't a good spot for small, young or broke businesses to be in right now. Sucks.

No it doesnt. I guess their just preventing going out of business. As far as guitars I'm an old Fender Man. I own 3 Strats.
