    oh, i see. may i ask what it does to the audio to prepare the signal for FM transmission?

    it's really a glorified audio processor with compression and limiting and clipping. It then creates a MPX signal that can be fed into the TX along with RDS data etc.

    It's the difference between a quieter sounding music track on the radio and a fuller, louder processed sound. Something that is always a point of debate as to what ideally 'sounds' the best :)
