...not that I can really imagine the plausible scenario of getting stuck at a deserted island while it being remotely reasonable to have entertainment
media.

For me, I did have to do a real-world version of this, both when I moved
across the US and when I planned for my move to Germany.

And the answer is, "Use DVD Shrink and take everything of interest". But I guess that might be a questionable action.

You would be correct, I have not. I have seen Gilligan's Island, though,
and I seem to remember that they also had some electric at various times.
I seem to remember something about Gilligan riding a stationary bike contraption in order to generate power? :D
