g00r00 announced this over on the Fidonet MYSTIC echo.

Looks like Mystic A46 has been released. No more A46 pre-alpha!

It still seems odd to me that versioning is such that _everyone_ uses alphas because it's the official releases.

Obviously, it's just numbers, and makes at least as much sense of counting up versions like, 3, 3.1, 3.11, 95, 98, 98SE, XP, 7, 8, 10.

But does anyone remember anything about the "why" of version history with Mystic? I could explain it with Windows, but am at a loss as to the
differences between the alphas for v1.05 versus the 63 alphas of v1.10, and
    the 46 alphas of v1.12.

    But I'm not an old-timer. I only started at v1.12 A43.

    I've wondered that myself.

You forgot 2000, ME (a.k.a Millennium Edition), Vista & 8.1.

Admittedly 2000 was the only good release out of all of those. 8.1 made 8 "better" but I skipped that all together and went from 7 to 10.

But does anyone remember anything about the "why" of version history with Mystic? I could explain it with Windows, but am at a loss as to the differences between the alphas for v1.05 versus the 63 alphas of v1.10, and the 46 alphas of v1.12.

I only (re-)entered the scene at A45. I remember seeing one of Avon's videos showing us a preview of Mystic 2.0 back in 2016, but it looks a lot like what we're using now in A45 & A46.

I'd be interested in hearing this story as well.

The prealphas is where new and untested features go. Once they have had some testing g00r00 will release an alpha and once those have had some testing and we can be more or less sure things are working as expected there will be a
    1.12 release.

So... if you have issues with any version it's a good idea to pass those by g00r00 so those knots can be worked out before an alpha or non-alpha release.

To be fair, I considered 2000 to be NT, and thus basically a different platform.

ME I've managed to block out enough to consider it to not have existed,
except as part of Windows CE ME NT. (Obviously, CE doesn't count, either)

But, yeah, just blanked on Vista. I suppose I should've known 8.1, but I also skipped from 7 to 10, and viewed 8 as, "Win7, but with a tile system you have to disable if you're not using a touch screen"

videos showing us a preview of Mystic 2.0 back in 2016, but it looks a
lot like what we're using now in A45 & A46.

Interesting! I half figure that at some point it became, "Eh, I feel like working on this, now, rather than worrying about what qualifies as a version number".

Which would seem _totally_ reasonable to me.

But, yeah, I have no idea.

some testing g00r00 will release an alpha and once those have had some testing and we can be more or less sure things are working as expected there will be a 1.12 release.

So it's mostly that he's still adding various features, thus it's not really done with the testing phase, because there keep being new features?

Though I guess I also have no idea on what's not particularly working. But
I'm still pretty far away from the nitty gritty on that topic.

Yes, the testing with the alphas and pre-alpha versions is open to anyone who would like to participate. I have always found the alpha's to be stable
enough for everyday use and for the most part that is so for the pre-alpha's also but folks should keep in mind those are testing versions and folks
    should keep updated.

Though I guess I also have no idea on what's not particularly working.

I have that issue too.. before I report anything to g00r00 I like to talk to others and make sure it's a general issue and not something I did myself.. ;)

Went off without a hitch here. Only issue I've run into so far was trying to use mis poll instead of fidooll with Avon's inter BBS games node.

Is it mis poll instead of fidopoll for all FTN stuff after?

I think so although I haven't switched my events to use mis poll yet, they
are still using fidopoll. I guess I'll have to switch that up before fidopoll goes away.

I do use mis poll from the command line when I do a poll manually since it's prettier.. :)

Yeah, mis poll force / mis poll send / mis poll 21:3/100 instead of fidopoll.

Just doesn't seem to work w/ 21:1/0 right now for some reason.

mis poll 00:00/0 (whatever the address) ... works much more fast and
without .bsy issues as I had with fidopoll. And as someone else
mentioned, it's a lot prettier :) I love the change.
