Otherwise known as a Church... if the big man is indeed everywhere as proclaimed why do we need one? But thats a large digression from where I was going...
When I first arrived for sermon streaming they were running 1 camera which was all fine and dandy and in some ways limiting. So I duly took in a second camera and during initial testing ran into a strange issue. The stream host is running Win10 not my favourite thing to work with but you use what you're given.
When using more than one camera, and when I say that, the cameras are really just feeding frame grabbers which still appear as cameras in the system. Soo what happens? The system couldn't sort out the two input devices and tried to merge the image from both cameras. Pondering about that for a while, I decided to move the "new" cam from the USB3 card (PCIe) to the onboard USB2.0 ports.
Presto, I now have two seperately identified devices but the system still can't differentiate them. At any give startup the cameras will be back to front to the existing setup requiring you to swap all the input streams around.
Enter Cam3 its using an identical grabber to Cam2 so I was expecting issues and I got more or less what I expected. I've go it plugged into a seperate bank of onboard usb ports. Can't confirm or deny they're on the same USB host. First I had 2 cams and one missing, that went to 1 cam and two missing, and a missing sound mixer. Somehow and I think this is unrelated all the USB3 ports went awol forcing me to work a quick nasty workaround to have anything working in time at all.
So after the mess(otherwise known an mass or sermon) finished. I shut the system down, pulled all the USB devices, reseated the USB3 card, and removed a Wifi card not that I was thinking that would be causing a problem but if we're not using it, why leave it there?
So many reboots later, and adding devices back one at a time, I have 3 working cameras and sound mixer. No real idea of just what went so catastrophicaly wrong a little earlier. However I now have the added complexity of each restart
having to reassign 3 video streams to the correct assignments in OBS.
Now this has been a looong spiel, but it has set the scene for what I'm having to work with. Does anyone know of a way to fix the assets to paticular names/devices in Win10 or is this just a weird vagary of how they power up on the USB bus, and theres precious little you can do about it?
