    Howdy

There are a ton of other updates I need to do for NET 3 which I am going to need to catch up with Deon on then amend the nodelist for. Apologies.

So I've been meaning to reply to this soon - sorry life slips by before you realise!

These folks have been around quite a bit already - so a belated welcome on behalf of all of us here...

Zero customization thus far. Mostly have just been trying to get active on FidoNet and fsxNet for now while we wait for other things to stabilize.

The race season at Road America was very compressed this year, so we had a bunch of weekends in a row heading up to different races with friends. Then last weekend we had the NJQRP amateur radio contest, but Etienne felt too
sick to go. About 1.5 hours in I got a call to meet him and my wife, Susan,
at the hostital. He had his appendectomy on Monday, and it's been a long slow recovery in the hospital this week. Hospital wifi sucks, but at least BBS traffic is built for low throughput.

Hope recovery leads to a lot of attention, more BBSing time without the risks and pain :)

He's not really using a laptop much yet. I, on the other hand, am sitting
here bored off my ass in the hospital. So I'm checking BBS messages a lot. Probably should try to re-learn how to play TW2002. So much more complicated than I remember.

Regardless, hopefully it's fun for you to explore it again.

I remember loving it so much as a kid... maybe 14-15 or so. But when I went back to play it recently it just seemed so much more complicated than I remembered.

I know there are tools that help keep track of such things, now

There are TW2002 specific tools? Well that rabbit hole is going to solidify
my desire to get back into it. Thanks for that. :-/

lot. Probably should try to re-learn how to play TW2002. So much more complicated than I remember.

Someplace in storage I have a sheet or two from playing TW2002 as a kid, complete with naming conventions for my ships (E.g., Speed Machine XXXII, as
I increased the roman numeral each time I got a new one), a list of
profitable sectors, and a variety of other game data that I kept track of in order to do well in the game.

I know there are tools that help keep track of such things, now, but my
memory of playing the game (by which I mean remembering the _effort_
involved) has kept me from being even remotely interested in playing the game now.

Being how I am, I can't really imagine playing the game any other way, so
    best to avoid it.

But I _know_ I've annoyed people with how I minmax. I do try to warn people
and offer to play games with different rules. (They don't even have to apply
    to anyone but me.)

Regardless, hopefully it's fun for you to explore it again.

    Greetings.

    the game now.

That's nothing, there's one BBSes out there that has TW2002 tools pre-loaded via this weird proxy. Just select TradeWars 2002 Proxy, and the "scripts"
are built in to help with auto trading, sector exploration, and upgrading planets. ~ to activate at the game prompt.

I don't know much about the playing evil parts of the proxy script. You'd
have to ask my son, David (Beanzilla) about that, since he wrote that part.

Being how I am, I can't really imagine playing the game any other way,
    so best to avoid it.

I know what you mean. I don't need more game notes sitting around
cluttering up my desk. I also didn't care much for the idea of needing to install yet another program just to help me play the game. I think it's
more fair if everyone has access to the same "scripts".

Check out the "space report" in the bots channel. If a TW2002 game can be reached from the Internet, my script can generate a report from it as well.
I used to generate a report for Prison BBS, when I played there months and months ago.

    Take care,

    Steve (bugz)

If I'm going to play TW2002, I'm going to minmax it, and it'll take
    significant effort.

I have no interest in expending that effort, therefore it's utterly
untempting to play TW2002, aside from the sheer nostalgia.

it's more fair if everyone has access to the same "scripts".

Oh, certainly. At this point, it probably should be assumed that people will
be using said scripts, and it's only fair if everyone has them.

Check out the "space report" in the bots channel. If a TW2002 game can

I do look at that occasionally, and it's nice to see that there's a solid
game going. And that some people are playing evil.
