    Hello, everyone!

Been a while, great to see old and new handles and BBSs in here!

    What's new?

I've been rocking my fsxNet branded-neck gaiter and T-Shirt and have had some interesting conversations with passer-bys around what a BBS network is... LOL. "So it's like a computer club?" Yes. That's exactly what it is.

Work announced we are remote until at least January. Probably more like April. What an utter sh!&-show.

Enjoying whiskey a bit too much, probably. And the joys of legal weed in California. Sometimes together.

Messing around with Enigma 1/2 BBS and I'm so impressed with its approach to so
many things... configurable menus, ACS, extendibility, etc. Really digging it.

Played "Death Stranding" on the PC and finished it in about a week. It wrecked me emotionally, for some reason, even though it's essentially a giant open world fetch quest. And you play a guy named Sam Porter Bridges who is a porter for a company called Bridges and who walks around with an undead baby strapped to his chest. High art.

    Be well, ya'll.

Enigma 1/2 is very good. It takes a lot of work to customize and get
running the way you want though. I think if someone made a more default
looking default there would be more people taking it up. The way it is
now, if you only get some menus done it's really obvious.

I've been playing around with my own Titan BBS, oh man what a horrible
state I had left that in. Looks like I need to wrap quotes more nicely
    too.

I'm getting there though.. I wanted to run a BBS that doesn't use any
high ascii characters and have no-ansi mode available, so I can connect
with my um "toys" hehe that means Z80 based CP/M running computers.

Although one terminal does support high ascii, kermit doesn't and that's
the one on my new Z180 computer.

Well have fun drinking and playing with enigma :)

"high ascii" means 8 bit right? So you would be wanting 7 bit? IIRC Viewdata (Videotex) was 7 bit - and my 7bit attempt with Synchronet is running on port 516 if you want a target to play with :)

Its not as functional as my Ansitex version, but it should render a connect and
    let you login.

Yeah, it's a bit of a 'mental model shift' compared to setting up other BBSs. Having more than the default theme (which is gorgeous BTW) might help show
some of the other features... I'm working on a kind of 'minimal'
    theme myself.

Documentation is very good, but I think manually editing hjson
files for config may be daunting for some folks. Personally, I don't mind.

Door setup I've found to be very easy as well. I know a bit of javascript
(and Nodejs) so my next step is diving into how easy it is to create mods/addons. There doesn't appear to be a lot of them floating around. Kudos
    to NuSkooler and contributors.

I've been playing around with my own Titan BBS, oh man what a horrible state I had left that in. Looks like I need to wrap quotes more nicely too.

Alright, now I'm intrigued. Looks like you are sending this message from
Titan. Is it publicly accessible? Would love to check it out!!

Well have fun drinking and playing with enigma :)

Can't wait until this plague is gone over here... Be well!

Ours has done also. I may have to report in later this year, though, as
we get a project going. I would not mind it except I suspect others
will also be called in, and from the group that does not believe in
    distancing at all.

    Ss.

Yeah, the default theme is nice, I just meant if the theme of your bbs
isn't skulls then it's a lot of work to replace all the art.

Documentation is very good, but I think manually editing hjson
files for config may be daunting for some folks. Personally, I don't mind.

Yes, the documentation is very good. It does seem that editing text files
is a turn off to some people. Magicka uses INI files, and I've been asked
quiet a few times in the past about making a configuration editor.

I kind of found HJSON to be a bit more confusing than straight JSON when
I was using enigma, but using JSON with Titan I can see the appeal.

Alright, now I'm intrigued. Looks like you are sending this message from Titan. Is it publicly accessible? Would love to check it out!!

Yeah, it is. It's a work in progress though (aren't they all) there is an
old version on my gitlab, but the current version you can see on this
    bbs. telnet wunderlust.ddns.net 2023

I tried (again) to sign up to your mystic bbs the other day, every time I select sign up from the menu it drops connection. Am I doing something
wrong? ie. has anyone else signed up in the past few months?

Now that you mention it, literally no one. Like, zero. Which means something
is def. wrong! Weird, I am connecting remotely now via SSH... Maybe a telnet issue... Thanks for that!

I just tried again, still not working (I guess you haven't got around to
it yet) but I just wanted to let you know it's when I press "new user" it
then gives me the option to sign up, i say "Yes" and it disconnects.

I could try ssh I suppose, but unsure what port you have that on.

Just taking a break from SYSOP stuff since my board is down. I plan on
getting a mini-DVI cable sometime soon so I can hook it up to my monitor to
get this working again. I'm also debating just retiring the iMac outright and just putting all my server stuff on my main server and selling the iMac for what I can so I can replace it with a cheapo optiplex or some shit.

I'm such a bonehead - I had "accept new users = no" in the mystic settings. Argggh! Thanks for helping me diagnose. Fixed!

I say get rid of the iMac junk^H^H^H^H stuff and get a real
computer to run stuff on. Or just put the BBS on your main server
    as you said. :-)

I don't mean to sound pompous or anything.. but if you're just held up
because of some $20 part, find one on amazon and i'll send it out to you -
i'm not hurting under covid, if I can help you get moving on your board again...

    Hello, everyone!

    Hey :)

Been a while, great to see old and new handles and BBSs in here!
    What's new?

I've been quiet in recent weeks, chasing a job I would like to get, I'm at
the interview stage in the next few weeks so, so far, so good. Also been
full on with business as usual work stuff and family stuff too... so yeah BBS has taken a back seat for now but I hope in the next 3 weeks or so to have
some more time again to focus on fsxNet and BBSing in general again.

I wanted to thank you, Zip and Sneaky for the fsxNet T-Shirt that arrived in the mail the other day. It was very kind of you guys to arrange this gift
and send it to me. Thank you. It looks cool. I really like the inclusion of
the domain name on the back and think the logo came up well and the t-shirt
is made of good quality fabric. I'm looking forward to wearing it out in
public over the coming weeks, just gotta get a bit warmer here, it's still winter as I type this :)

When I get back to something more like normal activity let's catch up to discuss the t-shirts some more. I'd be interested to know if there are
options to adjust the layout/design of the t-shirts etc.?

Totally! Everything is adjustable/tweakable. The front artwork is a high-res file I export from the Affinity Designer (basically a budget Photoshop/Illustrator program) and the back is editable text via the fulfillment vendor UI. So, let's talk when things settle down!

    Cheers,
