    Hello All,

Are there any DOOMers about? I see John Romero is back at it again has put up a
wad file for download on his website, rome.ro. It's a level (or maybe a few, don't know yet) called sigil that needs DOOM to run.

I play it with prboom-plus like this..

    cd /usr/local/games/doom
    ./prboom-plus -iwad doom.wad -file sigil.wad

I only had a quick look at and it seems rather dark, I don't think John Romero has mellowed out over the years.. :)

I play every once in a while. There are some DOOM players hanging out on the DOOM echo on Fidonet. I just re-organized my start menu tiles and set up War Thunder, OpenArena, Quake, Quake2 and Zdoom in a Games group -- I'm mostly old-school gaming these days. :)

Do you have an OpenArena server running there? I was looking at setting
up an OpenArea server but there is no example config and I couldn't find
any info on that although it's probably using a quake 3 config, more or
    less.

I'm an old school gamer also. I wouldn't mind setting up newer stuff but
have no more free time for any of that.

I've been looking at setting up a server for OpenArena, UrbanTerror or AssaultCube. Sauerbraten also looks interesting. I may get that done if I
can ever decide which one to go with, or I might have to do a few.. :)

This new sigil.wad that John Romero has put up on his website, rome.ro.

The engine I use is prboom-plus but it should work with zdoom, gzdoom or
any of the doom engines I suppose.

Prboom-plus runs doom2 by default so I need to use a command like this to
    run Sigil with prboom-plus..

    ./prboom-plus -iwad doom.wad -file sigil.wad

While I'm here I'll mention freedoom has just released updated wads for
doom, doom2 and also a death match wad.

There is a release version also at https://assault.cubers.net/ but I
find the client a bit buggy. The client I get when I build from the

There was a limited run of a physical boxed release for this back in May
which included some collectibles. I found out about it a bit too late or I'd have probably ordered one.

It's an entire episode and it's more on the puzzle-y side, especially when it comes to unlocking secrets. Difficulty is fairly high as it likes to make you fight in confined spaces and it's kind of stingy with weapons and ammo.

Cool, cool. Glad you got some maps from me that were fun, and
thanks for the mention. I have a LARGE amount of
maps/levels/utils available for download, for Doom 1/2, Duke3D,
Quake/Q2, Heretic/Hexen, etc if anybody wants to grab some.

I spent a lot of hours back in the 90's on Doom 1/2 and then a LOT
MORE hours with Duke3d (first single player and then online with a
service called Kali). Nowadays you can play them on Steam. I
don't think I've ever played a game that I enjoyed more than

Me either. Working on this takes much of my time...which I'm happy about. Was over at GOG.com getting another free giveaway game in less than 2 weeks.
Found I had bought Ultimate Doom a long time ago...usually during their
sales. I'll have most of next week off...so am thinking about spending some quality time killing everything I can.

Made it through the original Wolfenstein 20+ years ago. Took me awhile one summer between school years...but that...Diablo 2 & Doom 2 (with cheat
codes). Did get angry when I completed Diablo 3 on the 360 & got more
irritated that I hadn't bought the expansion pak for the 360 instead...rather than the non-expansion game.
