So Ma bell is currently installing the new Internet and i'm Stuck on mobile to do stuff. Trying BBSing with Termius. Suffice to say, not a fan.

I don't know that there's really a good way to do BBSing remotely. Tiny
screens with virtual keyboards just weren't designed for this sort of thing. Hell, I cringe on the handful of occasions I've had to use an ssh client on android. Truly horrifying. Here's hoping Ma Hell got you reconnected by now.

On the other hand, the iPad with a small keyboard attachment is pretty ideal (as long as you're connecting to a board with a proper web interface like htmlterm or vtxclient).

I use this to connect to my board while in an uber or at the airport or some place.

Yeah, they've had us connected for a month now and so far I'm loving how fast it is. Router's much nicer than the one from Spectrum too.

I have an IBM Thinkpad X60 with a 12 inch 4:3 screen, good battery life,
dual core processor and 3 GB of RAM. It made a great remote BBS client for
me, with the 4:3 screen Netrunner and Syncterm look right, and it's got one of the best keyboards ever put on a laptop.

Too bad it's running the BBS now. :)

I'm pretty happy with my remote setup. I use a Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 with keyboard and Termux. I VPN to my home then ssh into a local IP address.

UTF-8 works great, and screen size is pretty good.

I have the ability to do the same thing from my phone, though I'm getting old enough that I prefer the larger screen size of a tablet for reading print.

In fact, as I'm writing this and catching up on the BBS scene I'm remotely connected from my vacation in Florida to see a famous mouse with friends.

See, I would think that the iPad is just big enough that a keyboard attachment isn't even strictly necessary, although lugging around an iPad is a bit much. I've never considered them very portable -- at least no more so than a laptop, anyway.

For me, they're ideal. I can comfortably use the iPad (with keyboard) in the back of an uber or in a tiny airplane seat, which is where I spend way too
much of my time these days. And it's far more portable than a laptop. The screen comes on right away, there's no delay, it's fast and optimized for mobile browsing, and mine is also cellular, which means I don't have to
connect to wifi. In my case, it's super convenient, and not something I'd be able to part with. But, to each their own.
