    Hello

My second computer (which replaced my first which died) is starting to
play up, I think it's just the hard drive, as some times it boots other
times it can't find the disk.

So I got another spare computer that I have and am setting it up. I
decided to go with NetBSD 9.0RC1 so I could be totally alternative.

I've got OpenBox as the window manager, but no conky. Conky is too
mainstream man. Have MagiTerm installed, Geany for coding, and cough
    firefox cough.

Why? I don't know. Why not.

What's your favorite setup which is a bit "different"?

I've always liked bspwm, panel, conky, and as "mouseless" a setup as possible :) But nowadays I used Windows for my desktop.

    I can't manage without a mouse, I just can't remember all the
    keystrokes.

I have windows on my other computer that sometimes boots, but don't have
a license for this computer, so can't use it here.

Just run it without activating it. It's good for 90 days but I've had
one running a lot longer then that. <shrug> I want to do things
correctly but microsoft just charges more then I can afford.

On older, single-core Windows laptops when I was trying to conserve as much memory as possible, I used to run LiteStep as a replacement for Windows Explorer. It's a rabbit hole of customization, but makes for some great eye candy.

... Do you know where you are?

Great. Now I'm going down a customization rabbit hole. Thanks. :P
