PC Pursuit was a service run by Telenet, which in the '70s became one of
the first nationwide packet-switching networks in the US, with at its peak more than 1000 switches. In the early '08s they opened their network at night to home users and called it PC Pursuit. For $15 a month you could connect to a local switch, from there to any other switch in the Telenet network, then outdial from that switch to local BBSes, allowing you to
    avoid long distance charges.

There were certain exchanges on PC Pursuit where you could call anywhere. I remember going to Ohio and then being able to call LD to anywhere in the US for
    free.

All the hoops we would go through back then to make long distance connectivity and here we are today just a ping away from anywhere.
