• Question for the Candidates

    From Fred Riccio@1:132/174 to Z1C Candidates on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 08:26:50
This is a 2 part question...

By my count, 19.9% of the NodeList entries for nodes in Zone 1 that can do BinkP have one or more errors in them, some severe enough to cause them to be unconnectable.

    Q1 - Is this acceptable?

Q2 - If no, what is your plan to lower the number of errors?

    No.

I would work politely with the RC's of the nets containing the nodes in question to try to keep the segments more accurate.

Understanding of course that the nodelist can never be "perfect" and sometimes changes and corrections take time.

No, not in large quantity. There will always be some errors, as the list is written by humans!

Q2 - If no, what is your plan to lower the number of errors?

I'll work with the RCs to get them to work with their NCs to clean up errors. In particular, any node that is unconnectable needs to be assisted to become connectable, or else why are they in the list?

    Hello Candidates,

Thank you for your introductions. I have one burning question that I would
like to put to both of you.

What is your position, and what will you do (or not do) to improve the (currently) terrible state of Z1-Z2 relations?

Good question, Ian. All I can say is that I have met Ward in person on more than one occasion and we get along fine. We've corresponded any number of times
and haven't threatened to kill each other!

I don't think we always agree about everything but so far we get along. I see no reason why that should change.

Finally, I can only say that FidoNet is a hobby - and people interested in a hobby are starting from a common base. The rest is minor detail.

Like Dallas, I too have met Ward in person, in Quebec in 2007. We get along great and I do not anticipate any problems. He is very nice and is a good example of how a Sysop can be a totally different "in person".

I think that is an important first step in having good Z1-Z2 relations, and I too believe that if I am elected, the relation will not change or ever sour.

I'm afraid that I believe that Z1-Z2 relations with others may not improve no matter who is elected, because either side can and often will say something
to offend the other. I guarantee you that no matter who is elected, the
"other side" will find things to nitpick about that person... or their zone, their country, their political leaders, etc etc.

I guess my position is just take things a day at a time, have a sense of humor when it comes to who I'm dealing with... we're all lucky to have this hobby.

A person in Zone 2 can nitpick about this zone's nodelist or Policy all they want... but at the end of the day, either myself or Dallas elected is going to churn out a nodelist and do their absolute best to keep the zone working.
