    Mesoscale Discussion 0195
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
    0237 PM CDT Wed Mar 13 2019

Areas affected...Eastern Wyoming...Northeast Colorado...the Nebraska Panhandle...and far southwest South Dakota

    Concerning...Blizzard

    Valid 131937Z - 132330Z

SUMMARY...Blizzard conditions are ongoing across the Front Range of
the Rockies eastward into the Nebraska Panhandle and Black Hills.
Heavy snow, very strong winds, and extremely limited visibilities
are ongoing. These conditions are expected to persist through the
    afternoon.

DISCUSSION...A deep surface cyclone, analyzed at 971-972mb in
southeast Colorado at 19Z, will slowly shift east through the
afternoon. Northwest of this surface low, blizzard conditions are
being observed in much of the Front Range of the Rockies. The
highest wind speeds have been observed just east of the mountains in
Colorado where wind gusts have been observed at 79 mph in both
Denver and Colorado Springs. These locally extreme wind gusts should
start to subside by 22-23Z as the surface cyclone moves eastward.
These wind speeds combined with heavy snow and falling temperatures
have led to increasingly low visibilities of 1/8 mile or less in
this area. Expect these conditions to persist for a few more hours
with perhaps worsening whiteout conditions with visibilities down to
100 meters as snow becomes drier through time and more prone to
    blowing.

Blizzard conditions are also occurring across much of eastern
Wyoming and southwest South Dakota, but winds are not as extreme as
    areas farther south.
