    Mesoscale Discussion 0193
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
    0720 AM CDT Wed Mar 13 2019

    Areas affected...Southwest/West-Central WY...Far Northwest NE...Far
    Southwest SD

    Concerning...Heavy snow

    Valid 131220Z - 131615Z

SUMMARY...Widespread heavy snowfall is expected to develop from
southwest WY into southwest SD and far northwest NE. Snowfall rates
    over 2"/hr are expected.

    DISCUSSION...Observations across southwest/west-central WY and
adjacent portions of far southwest SD and far northwest NE have
sporadically reported moderate snowfall with the exception of CPR,
which has reported heavy snow for the past several hours.

Expectation is for heavy snow to become more widespread in this
region over the next several hours as the upper system approaches
from the southwest and strengthens frontogenesis over the area.
Anticipated progression of the system will result in this band
remaining in place for much of the day. The heaviest snowfall will
likely begin in the next few hours across southwest WY before
gradually transitioning northeastward. Snowfall rates in excess of
1"/hr will be common with instances of 2"/hr to 3"/hr possible in
    isolated areas.

Strong surface winds are also anticipated as the overall system
matures and the surface low deepens this afternoon. Combination of
the heavy snow and strong winds will result in blizzard conditions
beginning as early as late morning.
