Areas affected...Far southern MN...Northeast IA
Concerning...Tornado Watch 165...
Valid 092052Z - 092215Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 165 continues.
SUMMARY...Threat for all severe hazards, including tornadoes,
continues across far southern MN and northeast IA.
DISCUSSION...Supercell thunderstorm moving from Winnebago into Worth
and Cerro Gordo counties in northern IA has produced a couple of
reported tornadoes over the past hour or so. Overall storm structure
continues to suggest a well-organized storm capable of all severe
hazards. This storm's proximity to the effective triple point also
suggests continued lift and favorable low-level inflow to the storm.
Additional thunderstorm development has occurred farther southwest
on the effective cold front and appears to be undergoing a storm
split. Close proximity of this storm to the ongoing supercell casts
some doubt to its longevity but the overall airmass is supportive of
storm strengthening. Upscale growth into a linear convective system
is anticipated later this evening.
