SUMMARY...Snow squalls are possible across portions of
southern/eastern Idaho and into northern Utah/Nevada through the
afternoon.

DISCUSSION...An upper-level shortwave trough is sliding
southeastward over the northern Rockies with a cold front pushing
southeast across the northern Intermountain West. Along/near the
surface cold front snow squalls and heavy snow are possible across
portions of southern/eastern Idaho and northern Nevada/Utah as the
upper-level trough spreads forcing for ascent aloft over the area.
Low-level lapse rates will steepen (6.5 C/km - 9 C/km) this
afternoon and provide sufficient instability within moist layers,
including the dendritic growth zone (-12 C to -17 C), to support
heavy snow per RAP/HRRR forecasts. Shallow convection could also
locally enhance snowfall rates and surface winds. Strong winds will
accompany the snow squalls/heavy snow with sustained winds of 15-25
mph and gusts exceeding 30 mph.
