    Mesoscale Discussion 0840
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
    0238 PM CDT Sat Jun 23 2018

Areas affected...central and southern SC...southeast GA

    Concerning...Severe potential...Watch unlikely

    Valid 231938Z - 232045Z

    Probability of Watch Issuance...20 percent

SUMMARY...Thunderstorms will continue to develop and probably
intensify this afternoon. Localized gusts of 45-55 mph are possible
and potentially capable of pockets of wind damage.

DISCUSSION...Visible imagery this afternoon shows a cluster of
thunderstorms developing over the Savannah River Valley. Surface
temperatures ahead of this activity have warmed into the lower 90s
degrees F and lower 70s dewpoints. Modifying the 12Z CHS RAOB for
current conditions near the coast yields around 2000 J/kg MLCAPE.
Despite the relatively weak unidirectional westerly flow over the
region, KCAE VAD data has shown slightly stronger 700mb flow than
depicted in model guidance (observed 35-40 kt). It seems likely the multicellular cluster of the Savannah Valley will continue to move
east towards the SC Lowcountry during the next several hours.
Water-loading downdrafts with an occasional strong microburst are
forecast. The risk for localized wind damage may increase over the
    next few hours.
