    Mesoscale Discussion 1681
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
    1046 AM CST Sat Dec 01 2018

Areas affected...Central and northeastern Nebraska into far
    southeast South Dakota

    Concerning...Heavy snow

    Valid 011646Z - 012015Z

SUMMARY...Heavy/wet snow with rates of 1 to 2 inch per hour are
    expected to continue through mid-afternoon.

DISCUSSION...Surface analysis shows a 987 mb surface low located
west of Kansas City at 16Z. Northwest of this surface low, a large
area of deformation has led to moderate to heavy snow through much
of the morning. These intense snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per
hour are expected to continue through mid-afternoon in the outlined
area. Surface temperatures near or slightly above freezing will lead
to heavy/wet snow with a relatively low snow-liquid ratio. Despite
winds of 20 to 25 mph with gusts approaching 35 mph, reduced
visibility and blowing and drifting should be somewhat subdued in
many locations due to the aforementioned wet snow. As the system
moves northeast, mid-level winds will become more northerly and
drier air will move in aloft and lead to reduced snowfall rates by
    later this afternoon.
