    Mesoscale Discussion 1665
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
    0734 PM CST Mon Nov 26 2018

Areas affected...portions of northeast NY...northern and central
    VT/NH and western ME

    Concerning...Heavy snow

    Valid 270134Z - 270730Z

SUMMARY...Heavy snow, with snowfall rates near 1 inch per hour, is
expected overnight across parts of northeast NY into central and
northern VT and NH and western ME. The heaviest snowfall is expected
    to begin after 03z.

DISCUSSION...Heavy snow is expected tonight across portions of
northeast NY into central and northern VT/NH and western ME. The
heaviest snowfall rates will generally be confined to the
Adirondacks in northeast NY and elevations above around 1000 feet in central/northern VT/NH and western ME. Lower elevations in the
vicinity of the Champlain Valley will struggle to fall below
freezing and may see more rain or a rain/snow mix for much of the
overnight period. Snowfall rates are expected to increase over the
next couple of hours and persist into Tuesday morning.

Where heavy snow is expected, forecast RAP soundings indicate strong
lift through a deep sub-freezing, saturated layer with steep lapse
rates through the dendritic growth zone. East-facing slopes also
could experience upslope enhancement of snowfall rates. In general,
rates approaching 1 in/hr will be common, though some areas, could
see rates up to 2 in/hr in heavier snow bands. The highest snowfall
rates are expected after 03z this evening, with a peak in rates
    around 06-09z.
