Mesoscale Discussion 1517
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0634 PM CDT Tue Oct 02 2018
Areas affected...East central Ohio
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 393...
Valid 022334Z - 030100Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 393
continues.
SUMMARY...The threat for isolated strong to severe storms will
continue for the next 1 to 2 hours. The threat will wane later this
evening as the boundary layer stabilizes.
DISCUSSION...Storms in Severe Thunderstorm watch 393 have been
somewhat weaker than storms further to the east in Pennsylvania.
This is likely due to weaker lower tropospheric flow across the
watch area and more veered surface winds. However, deep layer shear
is still around 30 to 35 knots which has promoted some storm
organization and transient supercell characteristics. Expect storm
intensity to weaken over the next hour due to destructive
interference from the numerous storms in the area as well as a
cooling boundary layer after sunset.
