Areas affected...Eastern NC
Concerning...Tornado Watch 372...
Valid 140456Z - 140730Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 372 continues.
SUMMARY...The potential for transient supercells producing a brief
tornado risk persists across a part of eastern North Carolina,
including the Outer Banks, as Hurricane Florence maintains a general
westward movement toward the coast.
DISCUSSION...Trends in mosaic radar imagery indicated periodic
increases in low-level shear couplets and short lines of shear
embedded within mid-outer rain bands as they translate northwest
through west between KMHX and KHSE. The environment remains very
moist with surface dew points in the mid-upper 70s and precipitable
water of 2.64 inches on the 00Z MHX sounding. This combined with
the very strong low-level shear (MHX VAD modified with KNKT surface
wind resulting in 59 kt of sfc-1 km shear and 900 m2/s2 of 0-1 km
SRH) attendant to the hurricane will continue to support the threat
for a brief tornado threat overnight.
