    Mesoscale Discussion 1420
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
    0547 PM CDT Mon Sep 03 2018

Areas affected...Central and eastern Iowa into far southwestern
    Wisconsin and far northwestern Illinois

    Concerning...Severe potential...Watch possible

    Valid 032247Z - 032345Z

    Probability of Watch Issuance...40 percent

SUMMARY...An isolated tornado threat will continue over the next
1-1.5 hours with convection across the discussion area.

DISCUSSION...Isolated to scattered convection continues to develop
amidst a weakly capped, moderately unstable airmass. The
environment in this region is characterized by sufficient deep shear
for storm organization, with storm motion vectors roughly parallel
to a west-southwest to east-northeast oriented warm front. One
notable storm over Linn County, Iowa has anchored along this
boundary and exhibited occasional strong low-level rotation and
tornadogenesis over the past hour or so. Convection upstream of
this activity (near/just east Des Moines Metro) may also interact
with this boundary and pose a tornado threat over the next hour as
    well.

Over time, increasing low-level flow (in concert with a developing
850 mb jet) will cause the warm front (and associated surface
vorticity maxima) to lift northward into northern Iowa and far
southwestern Wisconsin. An isolated tornado threat will exist with
any convection that can remain rooted near the surface while
    traversing the warm front.
