Areas affected...Eastern Dakotas
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 348...
Valid 240432Z - 240530Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 348
continues.
SUMMARY...Severe threat is waning across the Dakotas. WW348 may be
canceled early.
DISCUSSION...High-level diffluent flow has developed across the
eastern Dakotas ahead of a pronounced short-wave trough. Strongest
convection remains confined to this region of the trough where
large-scale ascent is focused along the ND/SD border region. Over
the last few hours MESH cores have weakened considerably and
low-level lapse rates across the upper Red River Valley region are
notably weak. As a result, convection should remain elevated in
nature and based on latest trends the prospect for severe hail is
diminishing. Even so, convection should spread into portions of
western MN over the next few hours but a new WW is not anticipated.
