    Mesoscale Discussion 1246
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
    0302 PM CDT Mon Aug 06 2018

Areas affected...The Front Range of Colorado and Wyoming into the
    far western Nebraska Panhandle

    Concerning...Severe potential...Watch possible

    Valid 062002Z - 062130Z

    Probability of Watch Issuance...60 percent

SUMMARY...A few supercells are possible along and east of the Front
Range in Colorado and Wyoming late this afternoon and into the
evening. The primary threats from these storms will be large hail
    and damaging winds.

DISCUSSION...Areas along and just east of the Rocky Mountain Front
Range have warmed into the 70s to low 80s with dewpoints in the
upper 50s this afternoon. This has led to MLCAPE values around 1000
to 1500 J/kg. Combined with effective shear around 50 knots per FTG
VWP, the environment will support supercell organization. Storms may
remain widely scattered which could preclude the potential for a
severe thunderstorm watch, but given the favorable CAPE/shear
    environment with mid-level lapse rates around 8.5 to 9 C/km, a
severe thunderstorm watch may be needed if storm coverage is high
enough. Any storms which develop are capable of both large hail and
damaging winds with an isolated threat of very large hail.
