Mesoscale Discussion 1161
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0751 PM CDT Wed Jul 25 2018
Areas affected...Eastern Nebraska and western Iowa
Concerning...Severe potential...Watch unlikely
Valid 260051Z - 260215Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...20 percent
SUMMARY...Several storms are developing along a southward moving
cold front in eastern Nebraska. Isolated large hail and damaging
winds are possible.
DISCUSSION...Storms have developed in an area of increased
convergence along a southward moving cold front in eastern Nebraska.
The 00Z OAX sounding shows MLCAPE around 1100 J/kg with around 40
knots of effective shear. This combination of buoyancy and shear
will support at least a few organized storms, however, the longevity
of this threat will be limited as surface-based CINH increases with
the loss of daytime heating. Isolated large hail and damaging winds
will be the primary threat for the next few hours.
