Mesoscale Discussion 0769
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0325 PM CDT Sun Jun 17 2018
Areas affected...Northeast UT...Southwest WY
Concerning...Severe potential...Watch unlikely
Valid 172025Z - 172300Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...5 percent
SUMMARY...Isolated strong/locally severe thunderstorms are possible
this afternoon into early evening.
DISCUSSION...A few strong thunderstorms have developed across
northeast UT, with building cumulus also noted across southwest WY.
Modest heating and sufficient low-level moisture has resulted in
MLCAPE values to increase to near 500 J/kg, and additional
thunderstorm development is expected this afternoon. Low-level
southeasterly flow veering to moderate southwesterly flow aloft is
resulting in relatively long hodographs, and there is some potential
for at least weak supercell structures to develop, with an attendant
threat of marginally severe hail and strong wind gusts. The overall
threat is expected to remain too low for watch issuance.
