Mesoscale Discussion 0717
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0656 PM CDT Tue Jun 12 2018
Areas affected...much of central and northern Wisconsin
Concerning...Severe potential...Watch possible
Valid 122356Z - 130230Z
Probability of Watch Issuance...40 percent
SUMMARY...Scattered storms are expected to form this evening, with a
marginal hail and wind threat.
DISCUSSION...Visible imagery shows a CU field increasing from near
MSP eastward across northern WI, ahead of a developing cold front
and where strong height falls are expected later tonight. Low-level
winds will remain relatively veered/westerly, but the increasing
large-scale lift should result in scattered storms forming over WI,
and possible moving into Upper MI. Lengthening hodographs may
support a few long-lived storms, and MLCAPE on the order of 1000
J/kg may support marginal hail or wind. However, given the strong
shortwave trough, trends will be monitored for greater severe
potential this evening.
