Areas affected...Northern Arkansas...Western Tennessee...Western
Kentucky
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 142...
Valid 010449Z - 010645Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 142
continues.
SUMMARY...A severe threat will likely continue for a few more hours
across northern Arkansas, western Tennessee and possibly into far
western Kentucky. Wind damage and hail will be the primary threats.
DISCUSSION...The latest radar imagery shows a linear MCS ongoing in
northern Arkansas extending eastward into far western Kentucky near
the TN-KY state line. The MCS is moving east-southeastward into a
moderately unstable airmass where surface dewpoints are in the lower
70s F. In addition, the WSR-88D VWP in western Tennessee shows 0-6k
shear near 35 kt and has 40 kt of flow near 4 km AGL. This along
with the moderate instability should be enough for a wind damage
threat with the stronger cells within the linear MCS. Hail should be
the lesser threat but will also be possible in the stronger cores.
