The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 242
continues.

SUMMARY...A few strong supercells have formed near Gillette,
Wyoming. These storms will continue to bring the threat of large
hail and damaging winds as they move east northeast through the
afternoon. Additional storm development is possible south of this
activity.

DISCUSSION...Two strong supercells have formed near Gillette
Wyoming. Golf ball size hail has recently been reported with the
lead supercell in northern Campbell county. Given the favorable
thermodynamic environment upstream, expect these supercells to
continue east-northeastward through the afternoon. Through time,
these storms may grow upscale into one or more linear segments by
later this afternoon into early evening.

Farther south, GOES-16 1-minute data shows several failed attempts
at convective initiation near Casper, Wyoming. As the mid-level wave approaches, expect at least one or two supercells to develop out of
this agitated cumulus field. Any storms which can develop in this
area will quickly become severe given the thermodynamic and
kinematic environment.
