• Thought on Discovery

From Frank Linhares@1:229/100 to All on Monday, April 22, 2019 23:09:11
Now that season 2 of discovery is in the books, what are people's thoughts
on it? How does everyone feel about how they played fast and loose with
    canon?

I didn't want to like it while watching season 1. Season 2 sucked me
in, with just enough nods to the old show to keep me going. I thought
the finale was a nice sendoff to the present day and made me look
    forward to next season.

I'd still like to see Pike's 5-year mission and see Spock's character
    fleshed out.

I agree but both actors aren't coming back. I enjoyed how they played with canon and tied everything together. I was worried how they would explain Spock's sister as there is no reference of her and I thought the whole "we shall never speak of her again" was a copout.

I really thought that control was a Borg origin story, but then again,
Picard would have kicked himself all this time knowing that the Borg could
be stopped with a simple magnet.

I particularly liked the ending and the send-off to Discovery - it
felt as much a send-off to the Enterprise crew as it did to D. Ironic,
since it reminded me of "Yesterday's Enterprise", where Picard says
"Let's make sure history never forgets the name Enterprise", when in D
they were trying to bury the Sphere knowledge in time.

I don't recall, was the sphere data related to the sphere builders in
    Star Trek: Enterprise?

It was a send off for the Enterprise. Most of the characters on the
Enterprise (Pike and Number One for sure) won't be returning next season. I'm not sure about Spock.

They didn't indicate as much, but you never know. I personally thought they were going to give us a Borg origin story.

    Hi Kurt Weiske!

I don't recall, was the sphere data related to the sphere builders in
    Star Trek: Enterprise?
That could very well be. Who knows, I really enjoy how they tie a lot of stuff together to make the whole story telling co-hesive. I look forward to Season 3 of Discovery to see what they do with it.

    Cheers,

Ditto - they got the best of both world, getting to play with Canon
and some loved characters, then going off into the future.
