I noticed Fidonet apparently is gone from Europe!!! I cannot se any traces of Node 2 anymore!
I was considering also joining Fidonet but given how things are I am not sure which lead to follow.

    Any recommendations/advise?

This is from the UK but nothing as far I know...

    Thanks a lot!

node 2? do you mean Zone 2? if so, it is alive and well with some 1100+ entries
    in nodelist.117 for 2018...

Looking at my most recent nodelist (from last week), it looks to me like there is still a Zone 2 (Europe) with plenty of nodes in there. In Zone 2, region 25 is UK and Ireland, and in there, network 250 is British Net and network 263 is Ireland Net. Ireland Net has only one node in it, but British Net has several.

I know one of the major hubs over there is down right now due to some hardware issues but he posted recently that he should be back up and feed restored soon.

On the contrary, they're more vocal than Zone 1 these days. Maybe the BBS you're on has a partial nodelist?

I have been browsing around the internet but I mostly find broken links.

is there something wrong with visiting one of their BBSes? oh wait...

i have no clue, really... joining fidonet in Z2 is just as easy as it is joining in Z1... you get the nodelist and find the *C that coveres your area, send them a netmail (not email... this is fidonet afterall) and do what they tell you needs to be done to be assigned a node number... where are you? i'm sure that some one of us in fidonet can easily point you to the proper person to handle your application...

That even works in Z3. :) I just grabbed a copy of Policy4 and a nodelist, went through the motions and got back on Fidonet without any dramas. :) Can't see why it wouldn't work in Z2.
