So I just recently upgraded to Synchronet 3.17x
I have been playing around with the WEBv4 and tweeking it for the outwest BBS
I love the fact that you can add sidebar menu items and error pages etc..
So I setup my own custom 404 error page Great work on the WEBv4 echicken. outwestbbs.com/404
btw I have since been trying to checkout everyones 404 page but I guess I'm the only one that has it set up:(

It was on a BBS running VADV-PHP. Unfortunately, because of a problem
with the FIDONet tossing software, generating corrupted MSGID data, I
had to abandon VADV, and go back to Synchronet. I will admit that
having the "connect via telnet" option right on the front page of

VADV wasn't generating "corrupted" MSGID data... it was reusing serial numbers within the three year lifespan specified by the technical documentation... in other words, it was using a very poor algorythm for the serial numbers... that poor algorythm lead to system's that rely on the MSGID being unique over three years to drop the message as a dupe... it was nothing more than that...

if VADV was using a serial number data file where it simply grabbed the number from the data file and incremented it, then the problem was the operator doing system restorations and overwriting the data file with old data so the numbers were reused again...

the reason i let you know about the problem was so you would be aware of it and

quite frankly, bullshit... i added a MSGID routine to an app i had never seen before that someone else was attempting to work with... it was quite simple to add another pascal unit with the necessary routines and then use the one routine that was needed... that app hasn't produced any dupes since... the same
thing could easily be done in any other language... hell, just use a simple serial number that increments on each use and that'll fix it as long as the operator doesn't overwrite the data file containing the serial number data when
they continually restore backups over and over ;)
