    Baker's went under? They just moved to bigger quarters recently up the road, so if they died then that was a meteoric fall. They started doing a lot of
    pie business, so they needed a bigger space to service that biz, from the

    Sorry, I meant to convey that both those places have pretty good BBQ
    (ribs, really) and aren't all that far from White Rock. I really meant it
    more sarcastically than as a piece of news. Sorry to scare you.

    The other reason I wrote it that way was to see if anyone thought their quality had declined. Both those places have great ribs, they're just not
    easy to compare as they are done differently. I never order anything but
    the baby backs at Peggy Sues and the same thing applies to the ribs at
    Bakers. I hadn't been to Bakers in over a year though. Since Baker's has
    a new place I will have to check them out.

    Ah, well that may be part of the disconnect in preferences -- I don't care
    for ribs, instead preferring what used to be known as the "postman's"
    special -- sliced beef and sausage. And I love Sonny's private blend of sausage.

    started doing a lot of pie business, so they needed a bigger space
    to service that biz, from the DMN article I read.

    Sorry, I meant to convey that both those places have pretty good BBQ
    (ribs, really) and aren't all that far from White Rock. I really
    meant it more sarcastically than as a piece of news. Sorry to scare
    you.

    The other reason I wrote it that way was to see if anyone thought
    their quality had declined. Both those places have great ribs,
    they're just not easy to compare as they are done differently. I
    never order anything but the baby backs at Peggy Sues and the same
    thing applies to the ribs at Bakers. I hadn't been to Bakers in over
    a year though. Since Baker's has a new place I will have to check
    them out.

    Ah, well that may be part of the disconnect in preferences -- I don't
    care for ribs, instead preferring what used to be known as the
    "postman's" special -- sliced beef and sausage. And I love Sonny's
    private blend of sausage.

    Sonny's sausage isn't bad, I'm not in love with the brisket though. The problem to me is the sauce isn't quite right for sausage. Soulman's used
    to have a perfect sauce for their sausage. The two that were closest to
    me are no more, so I've not been by in a while to check them out.

    Peggy Sues, I've eaten at once and wasn't impressed. All of

    But seriously, when it comes to Q, the pickins are pretty
    slim in Big D, Pecan Lodge is the very best, Lockhart
    Smokehouse sucked, Off The Bone sucked, Sammys...ehh,
    Macs..ehh, Red hot and blue, keep it. Mike Andersons was
    good last time I went(about 2 yrs ago).
    Meshacks<sp> in Garland is suppose to be good, but haven't
    made it there yet. Hard Eight in Coppell is good and I'd put
    it at #3 below Pecan Lodge and Dubs

    Haven't been to Soulmans by Centerville rd. in a few years. When they
    were at Spring Valley and 75 or at I-35 by Sandy Lake the sausage and
    sauce was good there too. That's a few years back. If the quality went
    down since then it wouldn't surprise me. The stores keep moving further
    east every time I check.

    Peggy Sues, I've eaten at once and wasn't impressed. All of

    I only have the ribs at Peggy Sues or Bakers. I haven't been down to
    Andersons in a while but I liked them a lot, a lot better than Sonny's
    around the corner in fact. I've been to the Hard 8 and liked the brisket
    but not the ribs. I can't say I have tried Lockharts but will the next
    chance I get.

    The best overall[1] BBQ I tried in Texas (only once 10 years ago) was a
    tiny joint in a KoA (Campgrounds of America) just west of Abilene on I-
    20. I grabbed a combo platter and they had the best slaw west of NYC or Philly. Even waking up in a hotel room full[2] of dead and dying june
    bugs couldn't ruin that meal. (Got stranded during a coming tornado and
    the bottom of the door missed the threshold by at least an inch. The poor maid...)

    What passes for cole slaw in Texas is sad except for that place.

    [1] Pork, turkey, brisket, ribs and sausage. Sorry, I didn't try the
    chicken.
    [2] Literally hundreds, live, half dead and dead. Freaked me out until I
    saw the antennae.
