I would have to disagree -- I believe I've had the worst chicken fried steak ever.
In 1986 I was on the road with a rock band running sound and lights for
them, and in Wyoming I was surprised to find CFS on the menu. So, being
young and inexperienced I ordered it.
It was a chopped steak (I wouldn't dare label it as a sirloin chopped steak) battered and deep fried, and served with brown gravy. The word "heinous" starts to border on the right word for the experience, though in the ensuing over two and a half decades I still haven't been able to find the perfect
    word to express the experience.
The lesson: Don't order southern cuisine items outside the south unless
you're willing to risk a culinary disaster.

My wife and I go to the one by Grapevine Mills every once in a while. It's just a tad too far to drive from I-20 and 360 for dinner very often. We've always had good food and nice service. Never had the CFS as that's just
never been one of my favorites. Do like the really big Shiners on tap!

Been to this place a few times. I enjoyed it but only got the Bone-in Rib each visit. Which I really liked. CFS is hit or miss at most places. It seems now a days most places are using frozen patties. We have a few diners here in Plano that do this. Oh course a decent CFS needs to be fresh meat, beaten to death so its tenderized, then of course hand battered and either deep or pan fried. Gravy is the second step, needs to be thick, creamy, and peppered and of course made out of the grease the meats are fried in. Been
to many places that had great gravy (Lil Gus's) in Plano but the bastard
uses premade frozen CFS patties. This place is owned by the brother of the Guy who use to own Little Chef in Plano but he closed his doors down a few years ago. I use to work there as a kid when I was 14 and use to watch him make his gravy every morning which seems to be the same recipe Lil Gus's
uses now. It was good on everything.

As a CFS aside, it's not my favorite dish but the one I had at Dukes
Roadhouse in Plano was pretty darned good. Had it twice now, was great
each time. Thinner than some but a large portion with good gravy and
crispy breading and juicy, tender chicken.
