• [APoint] Minor annoyance

    From Martin Foster@2:310/31.3 to All on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 15:07:02
    Hello All!

    Whilst reading messages, I've noticed that the AKA's of the Sender and the Recipient are slightly cropped at the right-hand end of the message header pane. Anyone else noticed this?

    Regards,
    Martin

    Looks quite alright here. It doesn't matter what width the reading pane/window is. I see full node addresses. I'll send you screenshots of my system.

    After looking at your screenshots, I was convinced I knew what the problem was but I was wrong. I'm seeing the same behaviour on Win7 - Hmph!

    It could be something else "wrong" (or different) on your side. Here is a picture of Apoint on my Win7/64 desktop from an install on April 13 (which I had forgotten about), and there is no cut-off.

    monitor = acer AL1715 4:3
    cleartype = on
    aero themes = not!

    Try switching to a non-aero theme to see if there is a difference?

    Interesting and thanks for that.

    screen res = 1280x1024

    1440x900 here.

    graphics card = amd radeon hd 6310

    nVidia GT610 here.

    Little bell has just rung in my head :-)
    I had a problem with the nVidia card with something else a while ago
    and swapping it out for my AMD Radeon HD 6450 card solved the problem. Hmmmmmm, I wonder ???? :)

    monitor = acer AL1715 4:3

    Acer V193W here.

    cleartype = on

    Same here.

    aero themes = not!

    Aero themes = yes here.

    Try switching to a non-aero theme to see if there is a difference?

    Tried it and it didn't make a scrap of difference :((

    Wonder no longer. Nvidia may indeed be the issue. I just installed Apoint on
    my Win7/32 with Nvidia card:

    BTW.. Nvidia card was a problem with many of the linux flavours that I tried on
    the now Win7/32 machine. A Xfce desktop version worked the best with little no
    tweaks. But Manjaro worked right out of the box.

    Meanwhile, as you can see, I rather like the aero theme in the Win7/32 box.

    Had a look and that's exactly the issue I'm having. When I have time,
    I'll bang my AMD Radeon card in and hopefully that'll solve the
    problem.

    To cut a long story short, that turned out not to be the case. The
    real culprit was the width of the window borders. After changing the
    default setting from "4" to "2", the problem has disappeared - Ha!

    This applies to Win7(64-Bit) but I can't comment on other versions of Windows. Can you please change your comparison chart accordingly,
    thanks :)

    My results/changes are on a Win7/32
    It's the darn Aero theme. Serves us right.

    Update to chart, pending. Thanks for your findings.

    Dredging up an old problem and just to recap .....

    I was having problems with AKA's being cropped at the right-hand end of
    the message reader window in my old Win7(64-Bit) install of APoint, which
    was solved as outlined above. However, I don't seem to be able to use that method with my Win10(64-Bit) install of APoint but after all this time,
    I've finally found the solution .....

    Install the Winaero Tweaker tool from https://winaero.com

    Once installed, do the following:
    [1] In the "Appearance Section", click on "Aero Lite" and then click on "Enable Aero Lite(default)"

    [2] In the "Advanced Appearance Settings" section, click on "Window
    Borders", change the "Border Padding" from "4" to "0" and then click the "Apply changes" button.

    Problem solved! :-)))

    There's *LOTS* of other stuff that can be tweaked, have fun :-)

    Martin
