• Reading files with MS Ext

From Ed Vance@1:2320/105 to All on Saturday, July 28, 2018 20:06:00
    Howdy!,

I was wondering if a program exist in Ubuntu Linux that can read
text files I saved to disk with a M$ Windows pc using their Wordpad program?

    Wordpad uses the .RTF Extension.

    Thanks In Advance.

You could use pdf2text (does rtf too) or htm2text to convert to text. Of course, I'm using Debian 9.5 :)

It's been a while since I opened one of those. I've used Libre Office or Open Office with those before. A bit overkill maybe but it can do it.

I'm sure there are others too but I'm not sure which ones.

I just did a left double-click on one of them thar things lying around and the file manager doover fired-up Abiword (v3.0.0), showing a real nice, clean, view
of the doc. Note that Xubuntu is my preferred GUI, BTW.

    what does yours do?

    Wordpad uses the .RTF Extension.

Yes. It works nicely in a VirtualBox... still. Been over a decade now. :)

    Cheers,
    Paul.

    Hallo Benny!

precompiled systems is not what i like to see here

Huh? None of what is running here is precompiled. It is all built from source
    on the target machine.

why did ipv6 not work for last 20 years then ?

That I don't know. I have yet to use or need ipv6 so I never knew it wasn't working.

    systemd is only optional

That is a good thing. Everytime I've checked systemd it never works as good as
sysvinit on a purely console based system. I can easily live without it.

    still freezed on 2.26 here

I've managed to get 2.27 working since the start of 2018. Given the issues with 2.28 it looks like I'll be frozen on 2.27 for awhile.

are this precompiled or just patches ?

    git source. It just needs to be bootstrapped with the latest gnulib and then compiled from there. I just discovered that I can get away with the latest stable m4 source bootstrapped to the latest gnulib but not so with either findutils and gzip. I haven't gotten far enough along to know what else might be broken using glibc-2.27.9000. So far I have only compiled;
