Ok, I was told about this echo today and it appears that my NC does not have this available on his system, so I am connected to it through Janis (turns out my NC doesn't have a lot of the same things that Janis carries on her system *smiles*).

this echo is a recent readdition to the backbone... not everyone keeps up with backbone changes... for example, i just removed and unlinked SYSOP (again) because it is not on the backbone and hasn't been for several years... however others are still carrying it for some odd reason...

also not all echomail hub systems allow areafix for unknown areas to be forwarded to one's uplink... 116/0 feeds from here and IMECHO is available here, as you can see... so apparently 116/0 doesn't autoforward areafix for unknown areas...

    PS: real names? ;)

Both Janis Kracht, and Marc Lewis (my hub) carry all of the FIDONet
    backbone.

I have gotten my feed from Janis for years. And apparently there are things in the Fido BACKBONE.NA file she doesn't carry.

hogwash... i've combed that list explicitly and all three stars definitely carry all of the areas listed in backbone.na... that's one of my main things...
ensuring that the areas i carry in my backbone group are listed and available from the other two stars...

Someone really needs to go through the BACKBONE.NA file and remove all
the echos that are not on Fido anymore.

that's ben ritchie's job and he's been doing it just fine...

Yeah, that's odd. I have real names turned on (or at least I _SHOULD_ have them turned on) on my Mystic config, which is my main mail system. Posting from my WINServer system here on which I try to enforce the use of real names.
